It’s Getting Better All the Time

I like to draw.

I doodle and I like to sketch.

Not that long ago, I felt that my illustrations were plateauing, and as a creative professional, that’s not a great feeling.
It can feel a bit scary as well.

My projects lacked creativity and my drawings were… well, boring.

In order to escape the funk, I decided to challenge myself and take on some self-imposed projects that would hopefully push my skills and make me better.
I came up with the Ludicrous Alphabet (a visualization of the alphabet using my sense of humor) as well as a SuperManly series (basically superheroes with beards).

Over the course of a year, I completed these and several other small undertakings that stretched me creatively and artistically.

This venture took me outside of my comfort zone, reigniting my creative drive.

It’s an exercise I need to repeat because it requires me to make small adjustments to get bigger and better results.

While I didn’t know it at the time, I was implementing a very real strategy called the Tiger Woods Strategy (something we cover in our Human Factors in Packaging Design course).

In fact, to better understand the concept, check out this video presented by our very own Dr. Julie Rice.
